Do you snore? You probably do but just not too loud or too frequent. Snoring is not something to be afraid of. Not all cases of snoring problems are a cause for alarm. What causes snoring for someone may be an entirely different cause for another person. Babies, toddlers and teens also snore once in a while even if we often associate snoring with older people. Perhaps this is because snoring problems are more frequent with adults. So why do people snore?
Snoring, according to Wikipedia, is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to the obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. Snore sound ranges from soft to loud. Snoring results with the blockage of airways once the throat muscles come at a relaxed state. When this happens, the muscle blocks the air passing in and out of the lungs. The pressure of air that flows causes the muscles to vibrate and sound of snore is heard. Taking medications which causes throat muscles to relax can also be blamed.
Aside from the relaxation of muscles, sleeping position can also cause snoring . When the body is at rest, lying on your back can cause gravity to force the tongue towards the back of the throat and again, cause blockage on the airways. Sometimes, sleeping position is not necessary to cause snoring , overweight people already snore because of the amount of deposited fat on their throat. In this case, there is not enough room for air to get through.
It is important to know why people snore especially if their case is already affecting their health and personal relationships. Usually, snoring problems can be controlled immediately by using natural remedies or keeping healthy and fit. This is possible if reasons for snoring are determined early on.
